"Mothering Instincts" Week Begins!

Shabby Chic Torso

Hi Everyone~

Welcome to “Mothering Instincts” Week here at Whimsical Musings. I’d like to start by showing you my latest project--this “Shabby Chic Torso” now available in my Etsy shop. I have used curly seam binding ribbon to adorn this piece.

Up Close

I had no idea that it would take 10 hours to create! But, it is a real favorite of mine and I thought it would make a memorable gift for Mother’s Day.

As many of you know, I design for Shabby Cottage Studio and the torso is from their wonderful online store! (The music note graphics are from The Graphics Fairy.)

I have some wonderful news~My Paris Collage has just been featured on The Graphics Fairy’s Craft Blog....I hope you’ll check it out ~and it’s a great place to visit for new ideas!

Paris Collage--Custom Order

And before you go, I want to ask you a question....What is your earliest memory of your mom? I’ll tell you mine. I was about 3 or 4 years old and my mom bought the Snow White Album from Disney. We listened to the story and read the accompanying book together. It was a really happy moment for me.

Hello Cindy
Congratulations on your Paris piece being featured! I can sure see why..it is gorgeous! My first memory of my Mom was when I was 2 yrs old and we were moving to a new home. I had to spend the day at my Aunt's house while they moved us...I was so upset to be left behind. Have a wonderful week ahead!

Just gorgeous Cindy. Congratulations on being featured for your Paris piece. I love the jar in your header as well. My first memory of My Mom was when we were moving when I was three, and my Uncle and I had been playing with marbles. They all went down the vent in the floor. I still remember her consoling me. Funny how we remember certain things. I hope you had a great Easter weekend. have a lovely week. take care. hugs.

This is a lovely piece, Cindy! Congrats on the Graphics Fairy feature- you deserve it! My first memory of my mom...I was three...we were living in El Paso at the time and it was very hot. She put down a blanket in the shade and my sister and I had graham crackers and milk...Sweet memories!

Such a beautiful torso and such fun to do it a bit time consuming. Brought an extra smile to my face if you pop over to mine you'll see why LOL

Earliest memory of Mum (mind died when I was 10 so few memories) the earliest I think is when i would have been about 3 we were on Bournemouth (Sea side town southern England where I eventually grew up) beach Just Mum her Mother and me. it was a warm sunny day and I had a bucket and spade. Those little snippets of memories we have of our very early years and out of any context makes them even more interesting. What day of the week was it, what time of day, did we stay all day, where were we living sometimes the magic is in not knowing the answers LOL XOXO Zoe

Hi Cindy. Your creations are beautiful! I love the "torso" and congratulations on being featured with the beautiful collage. My mom passed away when we were teens, but my favorite memory was when I saw her tiptoe in our room to put a chocolate bunny next to my bed for Easter! (my young brain simply told me she was the Easter Bunny's helper).

Have a terrific week, my friend.

Fabulous Torso!! And congartulations on being featured on the Graphics Fairy!!
I did NOT get to make anything to show off tthere this week, I have to schedule my time better!!
Earliest memory of my mom. I was like 2-3, and we had just moved, so these HUGE (i was like 2, so it probably wasn't quite as huge as I rememebr) boxes were all around the house. My mom would make me play houses out of them. They had a door, windows, and she even drew curtains on the windows. I recall spending a lot of time in those boxes!!

Dear Cindy
Congratultations. I must look at this Blog. Well deserved, you know I adore anything Parisian.
A labour of love but worth 10 hours of creating time.
My Mum is a best friend to me and my early memories are always based on feeling loved and secure but I would say that what age, possibly 3 and we woudl head off to the local Library as my Mum was and is an avid reader (as am I). We would firstly make for the children's section and books for me were selected and then head over to the adult section of the Library.
Wishes
Lynne

Congrats on the Paris collage feature. :) This is beautiful yet again.

What a nice first memory of your mom. Snow White happens to be my favorite princess btw. She is brunette after all. ;)

I have many memories of my mom but have never really thought of the youngest one. I think it was a beautiful picture of my mom with me in front of my four year-old birthday party cake. She threw me the most beautiful party and had an amazing dress embroidered for me by a very talented seamstress our family knew way back in Cuba. Well, I should say tailor because he was a man. Boy could he sew. I still have about three of the dresses which my daughter wore as well and hopefully one day her daughter if she has a girl.

Hmmm...I should share them on my blog. You're so inspiring, Cindy. Hope you had a beautiful Easter.

What fun....I love doing these myself and yes they do take forever! A great memory of my MOm is that I had this cloth doll named Jackie..he was a clown...when he would get all ratty and worn, she would make him new for me (new sewn body...new clothes)...I never liked him at first as his face was always different...but in a bout a week I was happy as could be...funny thing is now I don't even like clowns...at all..lol!

Wanted to add...I adore your blog header!!

Very lovely. I don't have any real early memories of my mom but she was a fine women who did the best she could with what was dealt her.

Way to go on the feature! Love the newest piece of art! I've been working on some tags and I hate to add up the time I've spent on them. I add a little, look at them, walk away for a while, then come back a day later... I'm going to check out the torso. I think I'd like to make one for my bedroom.

My earliest memory of my Mom involve me being sick and her taking extra special care of me. Setting me up a sick bed on the couch, bringing me things to occupy me... she even gave me a new umbrella, and let me open it in the house!!!

Thanks for another wonderful post!

Way to go Cindy on having your piece featured on the GF Craft Blog. My mother passed away in 2009. I have so many wonderful memories. I miss her very much. On May 2, she would have been 87, it is a difficult month. I'm going to hop over to Shabby Cottage Studio to purchase some of those lovely flowers Gail sell and I think I might look at those torsos. I've been looking for a mini dress form. I might buy one in honor of my mom, she was a very creative seamstress.

Cindy, your altered torso is absolutely gorgeous! Its a beautiful, original work of art. TFS. I, too, have one of those body forms, and I could get a creative idea on where to start, or with what. Thank you also for the inspiration!

Oops...I think I may have deleted my comment, so:

I saw your link-up at the Graphics Fairy and just had to come by! Beautiful work -- love your style!

My earliest memory of my mom is when I lost my tiny little Raggedy Ann doll, and she drove all over town looking for it. She drove back to the grocery store where we had been earlier in the day and asked if they had found my doll. "Do you mean Little Suzie?" the clerk asked. In a matter of hours, the little doll had become a sort of store mascot and had been given a new name, but they were happy to be able to return it to its rightful owner.

Jenn/Rook No. 17

P.S. I still have "Little Suzie"

Hi Cindy,
Your torso creation is goreous! I think it would be the perfect place to display jewelry! What a nice gift it would make, too! And I saw you featured over at the Graphics Fairy, way to go! My earliest memory of my mom? Well, it isn't the earliest, but I am thankful that my mom instilled in me a love of reading. She would always let me pick put a new book when we went to the store, then she would read it aloud with me at night. I just loved that! Oh, and she also let me help her in the kitchen, from a very young age. I was baking chocolate chip cookies by the time I was 9, I think!!!
